BIRDS NEST REMOVAL & COWL FITTING
The warmth and shelter provided by chimneys make them ideal habitats for some birds and in many areas, jackdaws and swallows nesting in chimneys is more common than you might think.
Therefore it is important to get the bird’s nest removed as soon as possible.
WHAT HAPPENS IF NOT REMOVED
Nests can be a source of a few health and safety problems that you might not have considered.
The build-up of materials collected by birds for the nest increases the risk of an unexpected fire.
Bird droppings can be hazardous to your health.
Parasites and mites are being carried into your home.
Smoke and carbon monoxide entering back into the room due to chimney blockage.
A fly infestation from a collapsed nest or a dead bird in the chimney.
Pungent smell.
A nest inside a redundant chimney could lead to severe damp problems inside the property. The nest will become very saturated with the weather conditions and eventually start showing through plastered walls.
Between 1st March and 1st September, it is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act to destroy, tamper with or remove a nest while it is in use. This also includes blocking access by means of a chimney cowl.
If a bird’s nest is identified during this period we will book you in to remove it once the birds have left the nest.

Cap a disused chimney.

Most chimneys are accessible by ladder but some cannot and will require a cherry picker to be hired to enable access.
